Sneak Preview

Here are a couple of shots of the Palm Sunday piece I am working on. Things are in a very preliminary stages, each piece being only in step 2 or 3 of a 12+ step process. Curious? Check back later this week for more.

Palm Sunday Installation

I'm working on an art piece for my church on Palm Sunday. I have the idea sketched out and have the actual piece started. It will be a mixed media piece, about 2' by 3' on wood, all related to the happenings of Holy week. There will also be 10 little memory boxes, each holding some item that reflects some aspect of the week's events. Yikes, I'm a bit overwhelmed with the thought of it; I have a lot to do. Pictures forthcoming. Check back later this week.

Signs of Spring Out East

The past 30 hours found us winging our way along the beautiful Atlantic coast. It was sunny and Spring-like, tho still a bit chilly. Yesterday I got some lovely shots just before sunset up in Manchester by the Sea and Gloucester. Then today, Boston and Cambridge were just full of sights to see. The snow drops were blooming in Cambridge and the open air flower shop in Harvard Square was packed full of Spring blooms.

End the War Now! Peace March in Boston

We also happened to be at the Boston Common when thousands of people in an End the War Now - Peace March came through. It was quite emotional, especially the Veterans for Peace group and the people carrying the long banner with pictures and names of American soldiers killed so far in the war.

Gloucester & Boston

Here are some shots of Gloucester at sunset yesterday and Boston's Big Dig green-way project in progress today. They are using a lot of brick and granite for the walkways and curbing. Very nice. In many sections beautiful trees have already been planted. I can't wait to see the park areas all completed. What an incredible difference from that old rusty green elevated highway that used to cut off the waterfront.

Spring is Here at Sweetside

There is still snow on the ground outside, tho it is quickly receding, but the signs are unmistakable - Spring is here!

Gardening - Put Back into Dream Mode

Well, the "big snow" last Friday re-coated everything in a blanket of white so my plans to dig in the dirt soon are on the back burner again and "gardening" is material for dreams for another few weeks I am afraid. I will pot up some calla lilies this week tho. I've never done that before but they were in a garden that I tend (not my own) last Fall and I decided to dig them and winter the rhizomes over in my cellar. I'll take a few pics and let you know how that project goes.

Meanwhile, I have been helping A. paint his studio space. He should be able to move in there soon. Waiting on some flooring material at this point. The pictures show his bedroom area (2 of the 3 windows) and also close ups of the painted brick and exposed granite in his living room area.

Garden Blogs

Thx to this month's Garden Design magazine I've discovered a few new garden blogs. One, Dreams & Bones , is even from right here (somewhere) in Massachusetts. It's really fun to read what others are planning and doing. I am looking forward to blogging more about my new gardens here at Sweetside as Spring arrives. It was a lot of fun and hard work getting new beds established last summer and I can't wait to get my hands back into the dirt! The snow is pretty much off the beds now and some little tips of daffodils are poking up.
New pictures soon!!
