It is Verbena Time!
John over at Wiseacre Gardens recently posted about his visit to my garden. He pictured one flower that he could not recall the name of ---- Verbena bonariensis! Right now Sweetside abounds in its glory! Both the new ones added this Spring and the ones that re-seeded from last year stand above the 99% spent day lilies at 3' - 4' tall, bobbing in the wind and attracting butterflies like crazy! Wonderful September color and movement!
Also adding color to the Fall garden at Sweetside are the Anemones and the bright orange Canna both located at the head of the stream.

cabs,
It is a wonderful flower! How could it not be...it has a lovely color, being a see through plant it can go just about anywhere in the bed and bees and butterflies flock to it! Glad you posted on this lovely! The canna looks pretty stellar, too!

I had VER-vain stuck in my head all the way home. It took Annie in Austin to snap me out of it.
I'm going to have to give the Verbena bonariensis! a try next year. Anything blooming this time of year and attracts flutterbys is always welcome. Even better if they reed seed themselves.
Wish I had the new camera then - I would have been able to get off more than one shot at that butterfly.
Wonderful September color, Carol. Our Garden Club uses verbena extensively in our gardens throughout the village (lovely softening curbs in traffic island beds).
It is a great self-seeder isn't it? I love the way it moves with the breeze.
Beautiful flower and it's so nice to see so much color still in your garden.
What a feast of gardens! My verbena is all over the place too; lots of honeybees coming to visit but not so many butterflies - blame it on my butterfly bush. I'm not a real gardener but my DH is.
p.s. Your daughter is one lovely person (as you already know). The world needs more like her.
Everything looks great over here!
I'm going to have to check out Verbena!! It looks wonderful, and I'm all for attracting the butterflies! :-)
I love this Verbena but I don' t have good luck with them! They don't like my garden. When I see your lovely photographs I think I will try it again next year!!!
Have a great time Wurzerl
